You can use both tablets and powder to backflush a coffee machine, however, tablets are portion-controlled so you don't waste the powder. Typically a 1-gram tablet is sufficient for home backflushing and a 2-gram is used with a Blind Filter Deep 58mm for deep backflushing, which suits E61 groups.

How to backflush a coffee machine?
A blind filter is used for backflushing the group head at the end of the day. Backflushing needs to be performed daily as part of the cleaning routine. If this vital cleaning is neglected you will have bitter coffee in a few days and eventually, the coffee will cease to pour as the electro valves get clogged.
- Remove the existing filter basket with a Crowbar Filter Basket Remover
- Insert the filter basket into the portafilter.
- Insert the group head cleaning detergent into the blind filter basket,
- Turn on to make coffee, run for 5 seconds, and then turn off
- Repeat steps 3, and 3 times.
- Remove the portafilter and clean under the tap
- To Rinse the group back flush with any cleaning powder 3 times.
