Cafelat was the first to produce silicon gaskets and still has the super soft silicon that is lacking in competitors' gaskets.

This 8.5mm version suits E61 machines over  2 years - if younger, you may be interested in the 8mm version; otherwise, the portafilter may be a little stiff to get on.

Made from soft and heat-resistant silicone, which lasts longer than rubber gaskets.
The internal grooves and soft consistency make for easy installation and removal, and the light colour helps to detect if there is a build-up of coffee debris

Why buy?

  • If you notice that there's water leaking from the area above the portafilter, known as the group head, then your gasket is probably to blame.
  • When you change your coffee cream will improve as you will have achieved the maximum extraction pressure of 9 bars. (The pressure will be constant as the filter basket has a full seal.)

Features:

  • Better than rubber gaskets, since silicone has no smell or taste and is easy to change in and out.
  • The light colour helps to detect if there is a build-up of coffee debris.
  • Easy to install - just push on and lock with the portafilter.

Technical:

Easy to replace - all you need is patience and a awl or a sharp screw driver.

  • Remove the shower screen by unscrewing the main screw.
  • Remove the old gasket: Use an awl to remove the gasket or a sharp screwdriver - it will come away in pieces as it will be brittle.
  • Insert a silicon gasket - 💡 Be careful as they are very soft and can tear.
  • Screw back the shower screen.
  • Changing the group gasket every year will make this job relatively easy to do.

When to replace: When the coffee starts to overflow from the handle, when making coffee. You won't have the correct pressure to extract the coffee, leaving a diluted watery taste in the coffee.
