Coffee Machine Descaler

Are coffee machine descaler agents corrosive?

Made in Italy by Europe's top coffee cleaning company, Puly Caff Descaler Sachets X 10 are Nontoxic and noncorrosive citric acid - which is fine to use on aluminum boilers - such as Saeco and Gaggia so long as contact time is limited to a max of 25 min. Urnex Dezcal Descaler Sachets X 1 are food-safe and noncorrosive citric acid

How do you use coffee machine descaler?

 ⚠️Always follow manufacturers' instructions!

  1. Add 1-2 sachets to 1 liter of warm water in the tank - depending on the scale buildup.
  2. Run the dissolved solution through the machine, like a long coffee, until the tank is empty.
  3. Rinse the tank with clean water
  4. Refill with clean water and run through like a long coffee.

What happens if I don't use a coffee machine descaler in a home coffee machine?

Scale/mineral buildup is the No.1 cause of coffee machine malfunctions:

  • Scale can build up on boiler elements, group solenoid, OPV, and steam valves.
  • This can result in steam escaping from the wand, water blockage from the group, poor thermostat response, poor espresso cream, leaking from the group, and boiler element failure.
  • 💡If you see water marks in the water reservoir - then it's time to descale your machine.

What is the difference between a liquid descaler and a powder descaler?

  • With Puly Caff Liquid Descaler x 2 there is no chance of overdoing the acid and wearing out the silicon rubber gaskets prematurely.
  • Cafetto Organic descaler 250ml is packaged in easy-to-open one-shot dispensers with the correct amount to descale on a small machine per dose.
  • As with all the Puly and Cafetto products, it has been extensively tested and is the best solution available on the market today.

Do I need to use coffee machine descaler if I use a water filter?

Yes, you should descale the coffee machine, even if you use Brita Aqua Gusto 250 LBILT Oscar 90water softeners. Water softeners soften the water but do not remove all the mineral deposits, but you don't have to descale as often.

Can you use coffee machine descaler for E 61 groups?

Yes - you can descale E61 group machines - but only the group. Descaling the boiler requires technical skill and is best left to a technician

To descale the group solenoid, heat exchanger, and the e61 group components.

  1. Fill the water tank with 500ml of water  and add 200ml of descaler
  2. Turn the machine on - and dispense 2 cups of water through the group, let the descaling solution sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Dispense the remaining descaling liquid in the tank through the group.
  4. Rinse the water tank with clear water and fill it up again.
  5. Turn the machine on - and dispense about half the tank of clean water through both the steam wand and the group.

This procedure will not descale the boiler-only group. You may have to lubricate the group afterward. Follow manufactures instructions
