If the gauge no longer works, it needs to be replaced. It is important as it shows both the pump pressure and the boiler pressure.
It is essential to know the pump pressure to set the coffee grind, ie pressure when extracting should be approximately. 9 bars, and the boiler pressure is set at 3 bars.

This is an inexpensive fix, easy to do and should be replaced if it gets damaged.
