French Press

What is a French Press?

The  French press, also known as a cafetière, or plunger pot is a coffee pot with a built-in filter screen that prevents the ground coffee from escaping. Once the coffee is infused with 94c water, the piston is pressed down gently to prevent further brewing

The earliest known plunger pot was patented in 1852 in France by Jacques-Victor Delforge and Henri-Otto Mayer - hence the name French press

What kind of coffee is best for the French press?

Most supermarkets offer Ground Coffee with a suitable grind for French press - typically they can also be used with V60 or filter. For fresh coffee grind your own beans usingManual Grinders - all ways better to use fresh coffee.  Our pre-GroundGround Coffee is very handy for a lazy Sunday morning.

Very coarse grinds may clog the filter, while very fine grinds will pass through the filter, muddying the results.
