Thermometer sticker for coffee group - No more burnt coffee!

A big issue with coffee is knowing the temperature at which the coffee is extracted.

Knowing the temperature of the group when brewing will prevent burning speciality coffees. The liquid crystal thermometer is a thermo-label which you stick on your coffee group ( not suitable for milk jugs - see below)
It has liquid crystal sensors which indicate the accurate temperature by turning from black to green
Single colour liquid crystal indicators turn green instantly once the temperature is reached.

The ideal temperature is 88ºC - 94ºC.
Some coffees burn at 90ºC - like 100% arabica speciality types.
Espresso blends are more robust and can go as far as 94ºC

Features:

  • Turns green once the temperature is reached
  • Remains in place once applied to the coffee group
  • Small strip - just 1.8 inches wide

Details:

  • Material: plastic composite with liquid crystal slots.
  • Self-adhesive backing attaches to most clean, flat surfaces
  • Dimensions: 12.5mm x 450mm (0.5" x 1.8")

Why buy a coffee temperature label?

  • The La Pavoni group overheats after making more than 2 shots, knowing when to make a 2nd or 3rd shot will make all the difference.

How does a coffee temperature label work?Blue Star Coffee Digital Temperature Probe

  • The temperature steps will change colour depending on the temperature read on the surface below them. Usually, the black indicators turn green when the temperature they mark is reached, with blue as an intermediate phase.

Where should I place the coffee temperature label?

  • Where you can see it, preferably in the middle of the group.

What thermometer can I use on my coffee group?

An alternative to coffee thermometer labels is a Digital Temperature Probe - it is more precise as it will provide a detailed reading of temperature, and depending on the placement of the probe, you'll be able to profile your shots more objectively.

Very useful.
I applied mine low as possible on the group and wait until the heat has spread to the whole group, then pump until I get 100c, leaving the portafilter in place.
The strip then reads 65⁰ to 80⁰C. I dry pump again to adjust, wait a minute and pull my shot.
