Gaskets should be replaced every 1-2 years depending on use and shower screens should be replaced every 2 years.
8mm gasket is common to most e61 groups under 3 years of age - should the portafilter slide over to the 5 o clock position - then you can add the paper shim gasket - this will correct this and the portafilter will finish at 6 o clock for a maximum seal.

Easy to replace - you should replace the gasket at the same time. It is good to shop policy to replace the shower screen after 1-2 years as the holes get blocked eventually and will make a bitter coffee extraction.
Q. How will I know when to replace the E61 shower screen?
A. To check the shower - put the shower screen up to the light - check that all the holes are clear from debris - if there are 10% or more of the screen blocked, then replace the screen. The build-up of burned coffee sugars will add a bitter taste to your lovely and fresh beans.
